Sure, you can easily buy different potting soils in the market. However, creating your own allows you o tailor them according to your plants’ needs.
Before creating your own DIY potting soil, you have to keep in mind a few things. First, you should remember that good potting soils must be light. Porous mixtures make the flow of water, nutrients, fertilizers, and air towards the roots a lot smoother. Second, a good potting mix should not contain garden soil. Instead, it should be composed of peat moss, perlite, sand, shredded bark, vermiculite, or compost. Third, for plants which need rapid drainage, you must add extra sand or perlite. Moreover, for plants that need greater moisture, add vermiculite or peat.
