A few benefits that mulching bring include: conservation of soil mixture, ensuring soil health, minimizing weed growth, and enhancing your plant’s overall visual appeal. Failing to mulch properly, however, can lead your plant to serious trouble.

Below are 10 do’s and don’ts that you must keep in mind as you mulch:

  1. Do use mulch as an accent
  2. Do look at your entire landscape
  3. Do clean it out
  4. Do tweak the thickness
  5. Do try out a different mulch
  6. Don’t ignore bare soil
  7. Don’t use too little or too much mulch
  8. Don’t forget your trees
  9. Don’t assume you need something underneath
  10. Don’t use bad mulch
